Connect ChatGPT to Google Ads
ChatGPT cannot connect to Google Ads on its own: it has neither your credentials nor the right to call Google’s API. The SaveAds connector sits in between — and the step everyone misses is the first one.
How do you connect ChatGPT to Google Ads?
First turn on developer mode in ChatGPT (Settings → Security and sign-in → Developer mode): without it, the “custom connector” entry does not appear. Then connect your Google Ads account to SaveAds, create a read key from the Claude / GPT tab, and add the MCP connector in ChatGPT. It will then read your accounts, spend, campaigns, search terms and recommendations.
The step everyone misses
In ChatGPT, custom connectors are hidden until developer mode is on. Most users hunt for an option that is simply not displayed, conclude the feature does not exist, and give up.
The setting sits under Settings → Security and sign-in → Developer mode. Once enabled, adding a custom connector appears exactly where you expect it.
What ChatGPT reads once connected
The connector exposes a filtered advertising context: your connected accounts and their currency, spend and conversions over the requested period, campaigns and budgets, search terms, SaveAds recommendations and optimisations already applied.
All of it is read. ChatGPT can build an analysis, compare two periods, write a report — it cannot change any campaign.
What becomes worth asking
The point is not to rebuild the dashboard inside a chat, but to ask for what a dashboard cannot do: write, compare, justify.
- A monthly report written for a non-technical client, from the real figures.
- A comparison between two periods, with the gaps explained.
- A list of search terms to exclude, sorted by money spent without conversion.
- A cross-reading between Google Ads and the other connected platforms.
What the connection does not pass on
ChatGPT receives neither your Google password nor the OAuth token of your ad account. It talks only to the SaveAds connector, with a key dedicated to that use, which you revoke in one click from your dashboard.
The steps, in order
Ten minutes the first time, nothing at all afterwards.
- 11. Turn on developer modeChatGPT → Settings → Security and sign-in → Developer mode.
- 22. Connect Google Ads to SaveAdsGoogle OAuth, revocable at any time from your Google account.
- 33. Create the read keyClaude / GPT tab of the SaveAds dashboard. One key for both assistants.
- 44. Add the connectorIn ChatGPT, add a custom connector pointing at https://save-ads.com/api/mcp, with your key.
What ChatGPT will not be able to do
- Change a campaign, budget or bid: the connector is read-only.
- Read a longer period than your plan allows.
- Call the Google Ads API directly: it reads readings already synced by SaveAds.
- Use unlimited requests: every call draws on your monthly allowance.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the “custom connector” option missing?
- Because developer mode is off. It is under Settings → Security and sign-in → Developer mode, and the entry appears immediately afterwards.
Can ChatGPT manage Google Ads for me?
- No. It can analyse and propose, but applying changes goes through SaveAds, with safeguards and history.
Do I have to repeat this in every conversation?
- No. Once added, the connector stays available; only revoking the key from SaveAds cuts access.
