AI for Google Ads: what it can do, and what it cannot

A Google Ads account produces more rows every day than any advertiser will ever read. AI does not replace the decision: it reads everything, surfaces the few things costing money this week, and explains why.

How does AI help with Google Ads?

AI reads an entire Google Ads account — search terms, campaigns, budgets, bids, conversions — and extracts what deserves a decision: queries paid for that never convert, budget stuck on a campaign that no longer performs, broken conversion tracking. It proposes a costed, explained action; the advertiser approves it. It does not guess a commercial strategy and does not replace a target.

What AI reads inside a Google Ads account

SaveAds connects to Google Ads through the official API, with the permission you grant and can withdraw. It pulls the same data you see in the Google interface, but cross-referenced: spend only means something next to the conversion it produced, and a conversion only means something if the tracking counting it actually works.

  • Search terms — what people actually typed, as opposed to the keywords you bought — this is where most wasted spend hides.
  • Campaigns and budgets — daily spend, budget-limited status, impression share lost to budget.
  • Conversions and their tracking — actions counted, duplicates, campaigns with no recorded conversion for weeks.
  • Account anomalies — disapproved ads, low-volume keywords, paused campaigns still drawing on a shared budget.

Analysing is not optimising

Many tools stop at the dashboard: they show a CPA in red and leave the advertiser alone with the screen. The work starts after that, and it comes down to three questions — what is happening, why, and which action improves it.

SaveAds answers all three in the same screen. Every recommendation carries the figure that triggered it, the proposed action and the expected effect. You can apply it, postpone it or decline it — and if you apply it, impact measurement compares the period after with the period before.

The four actions SaveAds applies on Google Ads

Google Ads is the platform where SaveAds already writes. On Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn, creation and optimisation are being activated; until then, a Meta or LinkedIn recommendation says “apply this yourself” rather than offering a button that would fail.

  • Add negative keywords — the queries costing money without converting, excluded at the right level.
  • Change a budget — up on a limited campaign that converts, down on one that absorbs without returning.
  • Pause a campaign — or re-enable it.
  • Pause a keyword — or re-enable it.

Undo is part of the action

Every applied change is stored with its previous state and can be reverted. The undo first checks that the value is still the one SaveAds set: if you changed the budget yourself in the Google interface in the meantime, the rollback stops and says so, rather than overwriting your decision with a stale value.

That is the difference between automation and a script: a script replays what it was told; controlled automation checks that the world has not moved before acting.

A typical week on a Google Ads account

The walkthrough below is an account connected two weeks ago, at autonomy level 3 — you approve every change.

  1. 1Monday — the summarySaveAds pulled the account overnight. Priorities surface ranked by money at stake rather than alphabetically.
  2. 2Tuesday — search termsYou go through the queries paid for without a conversion, tick the ones unrelated to your business, and exclude them in one click.
  3. 3Thursday — budgetOne campaign is losing impressions to budget while its CPA holds. SaveAds proposes a costed increase; you apply or postpone it.
  4. 4Two weeks later — the measurementImpact measurement compares the period after each action with the period before. A recommendation that changed nothing is reported as such.

What AI does not do for you

  • It does not set your target: an acceptable CPA depends on your margin, which SaveAds does not know.
  • It does not write your commercial strategy or your positioning.
  • It does not repair broken conversion tracking — it detects it and tells you where to look.
  • It does not change Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok yet (being activated), nor Snapchat, which stays read-only.
  • The number of AI credits per month depends on your plan (5, 20 or 60). SaveAds shows what you have left.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a Google Ads expert to use SaveAds?

No. Every recommendation is written in plain language and carries the figure that justifies it. Technical details stay available for anyone who wants to check, but they are not required to decide.

Can SaveAds change my account without me knowing?

Only if you enable an autonomy level that allows it (levels 4 and 5), and within the limits you set. At levels 1 to 3, nothing is applied without a click from you.

Does AI replace an agency?

No. SaveAds is decision-support and controlled-automation software. An agency brings strategy, creative and commercial judgement; SaveAds brings account reading and the execution of technical changes.

Is my Google Ads data used to train a model?

No. Your account data is used to produce your analyses and your recommendations. Access is revocable at any time, from Google and from SaveAds.
